large shares

Large shares feed a family of 4 or 1-2 people who eat lots of veggies. Large shares include 8 to 12 different vegetables and herbs each week that vary with the seasons and range in weekly retail value between $25 to $50. For a visual, this fills up roughly a 1 bushel box.

Large shares cost $33/week ($594 for the season).

small shares

Small shares are just over half the size of large shares and feed either a single big veggie eater, a smaller family, newbie veggie eaters, or folks who have their own gardens (or love the farmers market).  Small shares fill up a half bushel box and include 5 to 7 different vegetables and herbs each week that vary with the seasons.

Small shares cost $22/week ($396 for the season).

egg shares

Egg shares are available as half dozens, full dozens, or multiple dozens--order eggs early as availability is limited--we usually sell out by late February!

Egg shares are $42 for a half dozen/week and $84 for one dozen/week.

for fall members: "academic" and fall/winter shares

New in 2018 are Academic Year shares, which run for seven weeks in September and October (and are great for students or folks who are away much of the summer. Small Academic shares are $182 ($26/week) and Large Academic shares are $266 ($38/week).

Fall/winter shares pick up when the summer season ends and cover eight weeks in November and December (4 very large boxes total). They can be ordered now for the full winter season for you veggie overachievers, or ordered later in fall on a box by box basis. Winter shares run $190 for the season, or $50/box.

sharing shares

Members are welcome to split their shares with a friend, family member, or neighbor. While we can’t split shares for you, we are happy to provide space at the CSA pick-ups for you to divvy up or set aside your split share with/for your partner. "We love, love, love the CSA and Hartwood Farm. Seriously. The veggies are delicious and my kids love to come on U-Pick days. I especially love the communication -- the newsletter and FB pages are my absolutely favorites, I truly enjoy all of the information you convey about farming methods, challenges, victories and other tidbits. Thank you, thank you for a great year so far and we can't wait to eat your tomatoes, potatoes and all other things yummy!"

"I love it! Great variety and you have introduced me to new things. I have been using all my veggies each week but have to be careful when picking not to get carried away. I am always impressed by how hard you two work. Glad you have a new tractor! Thank you for everything!"

csa philosophy

In its simplest form, CSA is a partnership between farmers and their local community where both parties share the benefits and support of sustainable, local agriculture.  CSA farm customers (“members” or “shareholders”) commit early in the year to buy a farm’s harvest by purchasing a farm “share.”  Over the growing season, CSA members receive a weekly box or selection of the farm’s harvest.

CSA works great for members because there is a price discount from retail prices (members save money!), shares are often brought to more convenient locations for pick-up, and members have access to a host of added benefits like visiting the farm, meeting other local folks interested in supporting farms, getting newsletters with tailored recipes, and lots more.

CSA works great for farmers because they know in advance how many members they are serving (so they have exact numbers of what they need to grow), they have more cash on hand early in the season to buy cropping supplies, and they have the support and connections with a community of members.

We at Hartwood Farm LOVE CSA!  We enjoy working closely with a group of customers to tailor our growing efforts and energy into what our members want.  We like being able to offer a price discount to supporters; we like having more time to provide greater details on using our crops; and we like building long term relationships with our customers

We welcome any and all of your feedback and ideas as we work together to improve our services as your CSA farmers and help strengthen our local food system!
