Top 10 Great Things about a Hartwood Farm CSA Share...

1.  8 to 12 amazing vegetables each week in a large share—a bushel box brimming with a mix of favorite crops and just enough adventurous veggies to be fun (but not overwhelming)!

2.  5 to 7 delicious vegetables each week in a small share—a half bushel box that’s perfect for smaller households or to try out CSA!

3.  18 weeks of the freshest tasting vegetables you can imagine during the best part of the CNY growing season—and don’t worry, there’s flexible share hold options so you can relax and enjoy any vacations!

4.  Free access to members-only upick gardens, a great reason to get to your farm, pick some flowers, and enjoy visiting the chickens, pigs, and the fields!

5.  Guidance, ideas, recipes, and now videos to help you learn how to use the vegetables to brighten up your meals! We provide weekly veggie support to help you make the most of the shares!

6.  Produce grown in a way you can trust—we aren’t certified organic, but we only use practices approved for organic production, and you can come check out how we grow things anytime!

7.  Local vegetables that are harvested at their seasonal peak and brought to you right away—they are super fresh and taste amazing! We love hearing how kids that didn’t like vegetables before have started eating them once they tried fresh local ones!

8.  Your CSA box helps support local farms and the local environment—your share helps us build a rich, healthy environment on the farm (come out and explore the biodiversity of our fields) and support other parts of the local economy through buying and hiring local.

9.  Know your farmers—we love CSA because it gives us the chance to know who is eating the fruits of our labor, and we want you to stop by and visit and let us know what you like (or don’t) about the veggies!

10.  Try fun new things! We pack the boxes each week with veggie mainstays—things like lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes that we all know (and most of us love), but we also throw in some fun new things for you to try. Don’t worry, there’s a swap box each week so you can trade out any vegetable that makes you say ick!

What is CSA?

In its simplest form, CSA is a partnership between farmers and their local community where both parties share the benefits and support of sustainable, local agriculture.  CSA farm customers (“members” or “shareholders”) commit early in the year to buy a farm’s harvest by purchasing a farm “share.”  Over the growing season, CSA members receive a weekly box or selection of the farm’s harvest.
Hartwood Farm CSA starts in early to mid-June and runs for 18 weeks until mid-October.  CSA members receive their shares weekly, either at an on-farm pick-up, or at a convenient farm satellite site.  Each week, Hartwood Farm members receive 8 to 12 different seasonal vegetables and herbs for a regular share (or 4 to 7 for a small share).

Why Choose CSA?

CSA works great for members because there is a price discount from retail prices (members save money!), shares are often brought to more convenient locations for pick-up, and members have access to a host of added benefits like visiting the farm, meeting other local folks interested in supporting farms, getting newsletters with tailored recipes, and lots more.
CSA works great for farmers because they know in advance how many members they are serving (so they have exact numbers of what they need to grow), they have more cash on hand early in the season to buy cropping supplies, and they have the support and connections with a community of members.
We at Hartwood Farm LOVE CSA!  We enjoy working closely with a group of customers to tailor our growing efforts and energy into what our members want.  We like being able to offer a price discount to supporters; we like having more time to provide greater details on using our crops; and we like building long term relationships with our customers.  Our farmers have grown for (and run) a number of other CSAs, and bring a decade of CSA experience with them to the farm.

  • Fresh and healthy vegetables grown for their great taste and harvested at the peak of their flavor (so they taste like they came from your own garden!)
